The Bachelorette

Image
Hello Blog! Today I will be talking about a really popular American Reality T.V show known as The Bachelorette. I am not sure if any of you have heard of it but I have always been kind of obsessed. Reality television has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. This season for 2021 Katie Thurston is the bachelorette. I have seen her in previous seasons of the Bachelor. It is only the 3rd episode so everyone is getting to know everyone. But I think this season will be great.  I have been thinking a lot about the Bachelorette as well. And it has made me question at times how that even works? It seems really unlikely, even out of 25 men, that one of them could be the others soulmate. It makes me wonder what they do to find these men and women. Do they do personality tests? Either way reality T.V has constantly had me wondering if it is ever even "reality". Take the Kardashians for example, I feel like almost every episode is made up. But they always constantly claim it is real. S

What I learned from chapter 9 & 10

Hello, and welcome back to my blog. Today I will be discussing what I learned from chapters 9 and 10 in "Social Media for Strategic Communication".  Chapter 9 focused on understanding how to make perfect content and the differences between content creation and content curation. There are several reasons to create content on social media. 1. To have strong brand awareness  2. To gain respect and reputation in the industry as a trusted resource 3. Ties into the search engine optimization capabilities  4. Provides assets to a social media campaign  Alignment of your content is one of the most important goals to create awesome content. In order to create great content, it must be relevant, personal, evergreen, engaging, and targeted to a specific audience. In order to create an alignment in your content, you should conduct a content audit to assess assets and focus on the content strategy.  Another interesting fact about chapter 9 was how to come up with a big idea. In order to

ONU life and my favorite class

Hello, and welcome back to my blog. Today I would like to talk about one of the greatest memories that I have made at ONU.  When I think back to my favorite memories, one that always pops up is when I was taking my Multicultural Psychology course. It is safe to say that the course changed my life. I was a junior (so last year) and I knew nothing about other cultures except for what I had learned with my friends and the movies and documentaries I would watch. I did a lot of research on white privilege and racism but never like I did in that class. I say life-changing because it opened my eyes to a world that I didn't want to exist. I did not know everything about racism or the many different types. I didn't know the first thing about cultural appropriation or culture in general. I had to admit to myself that some of my actions were racist. Some of my thoughts and beliefs came from racist ideals and upbringings.  I did not want to think that. But I learned more about myself and

Smartphones and Kids

Hello! Today I will be talking about something kind of heavy but important. I know that social media and technology can be a great thing most of the time. So many people have benefited from social media by gaining new jobs and being able to share their passions and dreams. Technology has offered so many ways to be engaged, keep up with family and friends, it has even allowed us to be safe and healthy. However, I worry about the number of people who overuse their smartphones. Specifically, kids. The Guardian posted a recent article mentioning a study that showed most children own a smartphone by the age of 7. That was shocking to hear. With that being said, having access to a smartphone also means having access to the internet. Having access to the internet at such a young age may potentially be harmful to children. There are all sorts of regulations to make social media accounts but most of the time children can bypass them by making a fake age. Having social media applications have b

What I Learned

Today I will be discussing what I learned from chapters 7 and 8 in "Social Media for Strategic Communication".  In chapter 7 was mainly about understanding how important writing, story-telling, and content curation and creation are for social media. Writing is important for social media because it is a helpful skill to have for future positions, a way to communicate with others, and is a huge part of many careers in social media.    Another thing I learned from chapter 7 was understanding how to find the perfect brand voice. Brands have unique characteristics and make the brand memorable to their consumers, which is important. I learned that you can create a perfect brand by asking yourself what you want your brand to reflect or not, how your audience feels about your content, and what benefits does your audience receive by being a part of the community.  An important tip from chapter 7 was that it is helpful to create a writing guide. This is because it can show your brand&

Summer at ONU 2021

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog! I wanted to make this blog about working for the paint crew at Northern. I have worked for the paint crew for three summers. Our job mainly consists of painting and fixing dorms, academic buildings, and other areas. It is pretty simple but also a lot of fun. When I first started the job I had one of my best friends from high school, Jacob. We went into college together and we went into our first college job together. It was easy having a familiar person with me but I still wanted to make more friends. That summer was one of the best I have had. The paint crew gave me so many amazing experiences like getting an in-depth tour of the campus before anyone else!  I also got to see the dorms and hope that I could get the one I wanted (even though they pretty much all look the same). We even celebrated the end of the summer with a pizza party.  Each year that I came back to work for the paint crew was an amazing summer. I got to experience what it was

What I learned

Today I will be discussing what I learned from chapters 4, 5, and 6 of " Social Media for Strategic Communication". Chapter 4 focused on what career options are available for those wanting to work in social media and what things employers are looking for. The advice that was given was to be sure to keep moving forward. This is mainly because growing a social media presence takes a lot of time and effort. You have to work very hard to keep growing your followers by creating creative and versatile content. The chapter explains that it's not all about what you know about social media, but the contacts and relationships you form.  Chapter 5 focused a lot of research in social media. I had no idea how important research can be for social media professionals or being able to read analytics. However, it is incredibly important for understanding audiences, you can see what people are sharing or commenting about your brand, and it can also answer questions that you have regarding

What ONU has taught me

Image
When I think back on my years at ONU now that I am graduating, I think about all of the memories I have made there. I have gained so many new friends. At first, I was incredibly nervous to go to orientation. I was completely content with staying best friends with my high school best friend Jacob who was also going to ONU. But when I go there everything changed. I was forced out of my comfort zone and made one of my best friends to this day, Moriah. We are still so close despite her living two hours away. Not only did ONU bring me my friendship with Moriah, but it also helped me gain so many more amazing friendships. Through ONU, I have found that you can build lifetime friendships. Even though ONU's campus is small, it is beautiful and full of fun things to do. I've joined numerous clubs such as the women's Soccer Club, Sister 2 Sister, and Open doors. Those clubs have truly taught me how to be a more hardworking, diverse, and loving person. I am incredibly grateful for th

Podcast 1: Social Media & Mental Health

Introducing the first episode of my podcast titled Social Media and Mental Health. In the podcast I talk about some of the issues with social media and how it is impacting our mental health and lives.  Today’s Podcast question is what are the things that we can start doing to help those struggling with mental health problems that develop from using social media?  Link to podcast:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Ocg2EozrlHvXDP5bE8A4ISiZK92DrHx6/view?usp=drivesdk RSS feed:  http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogginwithpaige

What I've learned

Today I will be talking about what I learned in chapters 1, 2, & 3 of "Social Media for Strategic Communicators".  One of the interesting facts that I learned was that social media is a science. It involves research and knowing how to research. If you want to be outstanding at social media you must be able to familiarize yourself with statistics, Excel, spreadsheets, data, and other mathematical elements. I had no idea how important it was to understand how to work with mathematical elements. Social media professionals seem to do more than I thought. Another interesting fact is how important creativity is. It is obvious how valuable creative content is, but it can be hard coming up with new ideas every day. I see my favorite YouTubers who make so much content every day and I give them props. It seems highly difficult to put out quality and creative content each day. Another interesting concept from the chapters was the goals of social media and what it is about. The chap

TikTok? Musically? Vine?

Have any of you heard of TikTok? Chances are you probably have, or at least know someone that has the app. Almost everyone with a smartphone is obsessed with this new app that brings together always every aspect of social media. Challenges are usually the first thing people think of when they hear TikTok. That's because there are always new trends and challenges that users try. Most of the time they are pretty funny and engaging. The challenges really create a community and a sense of inclusiveness. TikTok is also extremely easy to use and has it's own video editing software with many filters and voice changes available. I would say the best thing about TikTok is the content. There are so many creative people who make paintings, sing, play instruments, design clothes, etc. There have been many people who have grown their popularity on the app just by sharing their art. There are now social media influencers who have risen to fame because of the app.  All of this is great but I

Summer Fun at ONU

Image
I am so excited to be making another blog again. So much has happened since the last time I blogged. Besides being super busy with my summer classes, I have had a lot of fun visiting my best friends. My friends Abby and Bre came back to Ada from their hometowns to see me! It was a complete blast. We had an amazing dinner and I enjoyed a great salad from a restaurant called The Old Barn Out Back. I had never been there but my salad was amazing. Then we came back to ONU and had a nice walk around campus. Abby and Bre ended up staying the night with me and we had a movie night with a lot of snacks. Unfortunately, they had to go the next day and we said our goodbyes. Both of them commented on how amazing and beautiful ONU's campus was during the summer.   On another note, my summer classes have been going really well. I have really enjoyed taking my African music course. I have learned so much about the culture, history, and language of Africa. My professor also holds Googlemeet's
