What ONU has taught me

When I think back on my years at ONU now that I am graduating, I think about all of the memories I have made there. I have gained so many new friends. At first, I was incredibly nervous to go to orientation. I was completely content with staying best friends with my high school best friend Jacob who was also going to ONU. But when I go there everything changed. I was forced out of my comfort zone and made one of my best friends to this day, Moriah. We are still so close despite her living two hours away. Not only did ONU bring me my friendship with Moriah, but it also helped me gain so many more amazing friendships. Through ONU, I have found that you can build lifetime friendships.

Even though ONU's campus is small, it is beautiful and full of fun things to do. I've joined numerous clubs such as the women's Soccer Club, Sister 2 Sister, and Open doors. Those clubs have truly taught me how to be a more hardworking, diverse, and loving person. I am incredibly grateful for those experiences.

When it comes to academics I have to say that I was blessed with the most amazing professors that taught me perseverance, hard work, and dedication. They showed me that if you put in the work, stay up on long nights, and give your best you can achieve anything. Being an ONU student is not always easy, however, my professors did their best to help.

My advice to future or existing college students is to just make the best of your years. By "make the best" I mean, join the clubs you wanted to join, talk to your professors, go to events, and make the most of your college career. I have learned that soaking up every experience never harms anyone.

  1. I agree with what you have said here. I think that has something to do with "growing up". College is the time to become your own person and branch out to be apart of activities you are passionate about. I agree that talking to professors makes a huge difference. Professors are more like friends than just someone who teaches you a course. The great thing about ONU is how small it is. Makes you feel like you have a family away from home.

  2. Going into my freshman year last fall I was so nervous about making new friends. I had great friends at home and had no intentions of losing them. I realized that I can have college friends and high school friends and there is nothing wrong with that! I love that ONU is teaching us all more than we know and that we can use these lessons in the long run.

  3. I couldn't agree more on soaking up the experience and putting that foot out there to do the things you want to do. It's awesome that you learned/knew this from your experience at ONU because not everyone thinks to do that. I remember how freshman year my mindset was focus on school and get a little involved, but I felt like I was missing out and limiting myself which is why this past year I really dove in. My advice to any college student is to make the time to do the things you want to do because you learn so many valuable lessons from those experiences and you get to have fun too! I can't wait for another year!
