Summer Fun at ONU
I am so excited to be making another blog again. So much has happened since the last time I blogged. Besides being super busy with my summer classes, I have had a lot of fun visiting my best friends. My friends Abby and Bre came back to Ada from their hometowns to see me! It was a complete blast. We had an amazing dinner and I enjoyed a great salad from a restaurant called The Old Barn Out Back. I had never been there but my salad was amazing. Then we came back to ONU and had a nice walk around campus. Abby and Bre ended up staying the night with me and we had a movie night with a lot of snacks. Unfortunately, they had to go the next day and we said our goodbyes. Both of them commented on how amazing and beautiful ONU's campus was during the summer.
On another note, my summer classes have been going really well. I have really enjoyed taking my African music course. I have learned so much about the culture, history, and language of Africa. My professor also holds Googlemeet's for our class where she shows us various instruments such as water drums, kora, ngoni, etc. My
only wish is that COVID didn't affect the trip that she takes her students on. She is able to allow us to experience Africa hands-on so, it is unfortunate that she isn't able to do that this year.
Lastly, even though I love Ada very much I am so excited to announce that I have finally decided to accept a job offer at the University of Michigan in their Emotion and Self-Control Lab. As a psychology major, I have worked in Dr. Zoladz PTSD Lab for two years. I am so grateful for that experience because it has allowed me to acquire all of the necessary skills needed to work in a lab at the University of Michigan. I am very sad about leaving ONU and Ada. I grew up in Ada and went to Ada High School and eventually Ohio Northern University. This will be the first time that I have ever lived in another state. It is exciting but I truly will miss my ONU experiences, professors, and friends.
Hi Paige! I am also very busy with summer classes and everything has been so hectic! The Old Barn Out Back is so good! I go there with my family every once in awhile. The African music course sounds fun and the trip that your professor would have taken you on probably would have been awesome so I would be really bummed about that too. Congrats on accepting your job offer at the University of Michigan. As an Ohio State fan, it is probably bad to say this but Ann Arbor is one of my favorite cities I have been to in the surrounding states. There is so much to do there so I think you will have a great time!
ReplyDeleteThat plate of food looks awesome. I have never been to The Old Barn Out Back but I am definitely going to try it next time I am in Ada. That is so nice of your friends to come by for a quick visit. Since I am home in Toledo for the summer I have to luxury of being around my friends every week. Your African music class sounds very interesting. I am sure it is a great way to open your mind into seeing new and different cultures. Me personally I always enjoy learning about new cultures and I am a huge history buff. Getting a job at Michigan University is very impressive. I hope you enjoy your job once it starts and I am wishing you the best of luck going forward.
